5 Best Farmers Markets in Southwest Florida
As snowbirds return to paradise, so do the fabulous farmers markets! For many, going to the farmers market is a weekly tradition as it is the best spot to buy fresh produce and support local farmers. While Florida’s signature crop is citrus, Immokalee has been deemed the tomato capital of America so one of the top commodities at the markets is actually tomatoes. However, the best farmers markets offer more than just produce. From sweet treats to jewelry to fresh seafood, there is something for everyone at the markets. There is a plethora of weekly markets to choose from but we have narrowed it down to the top five farmers markets in Southwest Florida.
Vanderbilt Shoppes Market—Located in the heart of North Naples, the Vanderbilt Farmers Market is the largest market in the area with over 90 vendors seasonally. It is one of the only year-round markets in Southwest Florida. The vibrant hub offers an array of fresh fruits, vegetables, handmade crafts, clothes, accessories, and gourmet treats. Visitors can stroll through a diverse selection of stands while enjoying the lively atmosphere and mingling with the friendly vendors. Many of the retail stores and cafes at the shopping center are open during the market so set aside some time to stroll and browse. If you arrive hungry, head straight to the back of the market for food trucks and food stands that will make your mouth water. If you like to start your morning with caffeine, stop by Angelic Desserts for a latte and delicious pastry. This pet friendly market is open on Saturdays from 8AM to 1PM (closes at 12PM in summer).
Third Street South Farmers Market—This is a true gem for those seeking a blend of culture, entertainment, and fresh produce. Set against the backdrop of historic Third Street South, it boasts a mix of vendors showcasing everything from fresh produce to artisanal cheeses and unique gifts. Third Street South Farmers Market is a seasonal market so it is only open mid-November through April from 7:30AM to 11:30AM. Also, since it is a hub for tourists, parking can be a bit tricky. We recommend arriving by 8:30AM to get close parking. The star of the show for this market is the ambience. From the beautiful street to the live music and live art display, there is so much charm at this seasonal market. A visit to the Third Street Market is a delightful experience that captures the essence of Southwest Florida’s rich local culture.
Pine Ridge Farmers Market—If your Saturday is always filled with plans, you will love the Pine Ridge Farmers Market. Open on Sundays from 9AM-1PM, this market exudes a warm and inviting atmosphere. This market is known for its emphasis on high-quality, locally-sourced products. It is popular with the locals thanks to its convenient location and the amount of food vendors. Visitors can peruse a wide range of organic fruits and vegetables, alongside an array of homemade baked goods and specialty items. The friendly vendors are always eager to share their passion for sustainable agriculture and offer advice on the best ways to incorporate fresh, seasonal ingredients into one’s diet. The market is open year-round and operates rain or shine.
Marco Island Farmers Market—Situated on the scenic Marco Island, this large market is a must-visit for both locals and tourists alike. The Marco Island Farmers Market is the largest market in that area of Southwest Florida and attracts hundreds of people every weekend. While they do have excellent produce and bakery vendors, they also have plenty of vendors selling everything else you can imagine! If you are not staying on Marco Island, it can be a long drive to get to the market. However, it is worth the trip. We recommend packing for a day at the beach and exploring all that Marco has to offer while you are there. The market’s picturesque location, combined with the abundance of high-quality products, makes it a quintessential stop. The market is only open seasonally from mid-November to mid-April.
Farmer Mike’s U-Pick—Now, this is not necessarily a weekly market but it is a must-visit whether you live in the area or just visiting. Nestled in Bonita Springs, Farmer Mike’s U-Pick is an interactive farm experience for those looking to get hands-on with their produce. This family-owned farm offers visitors the chance to pick their own fruits and vegetables directly from the fields. The farm is open year-round and offers a wide variety of produce depending on the season; however the citrus season is always most popular which runs from November to May (subject to weather). Going produce picking is a fun way to spend time outside while appreciating the natural beauty of Southwest Florida’s farmland. In addition to the U-Pick experience, Farmer Mike’s also features a market area where visitors can find additional farm-fresh products and unique homemade treats.
These farmers markets each offer a different experience and we recommend visiting all of them! Agriculture has a big impact on Collier and Lee County so supporting our farmers is very important. Plus, you will get to enjoy excellent food and ambience while doing so! Whether it’s the charming atmosphere of Third Street Market or the hands-on experience at Farmer Mike’s U-Pick, these markets are sure to leave a lasting impression on visitors.
