Another Top Ranking for Naples, Florida | #1 Spot for Well-being
Naples is breaking records, standing at the top of the list of the Gallup National Health and Well-Being Index for four years in a row! The No. 1 ranking for the Naples area among 156 communities in the U.S. represents the first time in 11 years that the same area has held the top spot four times in a row, according to Gallup.
The Gallup National Health and Well-Being Index is calculated on a scale of 0 to 100, where 0 represents the lowest possible well-being and 100 represents the highest possible well-being. The Well-Being Index score for the U.S. and for each metro area is based on scores within each of the five essential elements of well-being:
- Career: liking what you do each day and being motivated to achieve your goals
- Social: having supportive relationships and love in your life
- Financial: managing your economic life to reduce stress and increase security
- Community: liking where you live, feeling safe and having pride in your community
- Physical: having good health and enough energy to get things done daily
According to the Naples Daily News, Naples Mayor Bill Barnett attributes Naples’ standing to the Blue Zones Project of Southwest Florida, a healthy lifestyle improvement initiative launched in 2012 by the NCH Healthcare System and then-president and chief executive officer, Dr. Allen Weiss.
Barnett said city residents practice the Blue Zones lifestyle. He pointed to improvements in walking trails and cycling paths that dovetail with the Blue Zones recommendation of moving naturally for physical activity.
“Our citizens enjoy participating,” Barnett said. “It is a lifestyle.”
